Mr. Emery Paquin Board Member
Mr. Emery Paquin has more than 30 years of experience in environmental management in the Northwest Territories. Emery began his career in the territories working for a gold mine where he was responsible for water license monitoring and compliance. Emery joined the Government of the Northwest Territories in 1983 where he served in many capacities with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources - from Environmental Technologist to Director of the Environmental Protection Division – until his retirement in 2008. Emery currently operates a small environmental consulting firm.
Emery is skilled in the planning, development and implementation of strategic, policy and program activities and knowledgeable in northern air, land and water management, government operations and territorial and federal environmental legislation and policies. While employed with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, his responsibility areas included spill response and contingency planning, contaminated site management, waste management and recycling, environmental assessment, air quality, and climate change. He also participated in the drafting of environmental Acts, regulations, guidelines and the NWT Greenhouse Gas Strategy and performed a key role in Devolution negotiations with respect to waste sites.
Emery received his formal education and training through the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology and the University of Victoria.
